Ohio Scientific Challenger 1P Personal Computer

Anecdote concerning the unit owned by Alex Reid:

The owner’s 13 year-old son spent from Friday-Monday inclusive over Easter 1980 without getting out of his pyjamas programming it to play “Space Invaders” – already a popular arcade game.  Once completed, he invited other members of the family to play.  He was not interested himself, claiming that he was far more interested in programming the game than in playing it.

He went on to gain an honours degree in Computer Science at UWA, and won the Rhodes Scholarship in 1987 to Oxford University, where he gained a DPhil and is now a lecturer in computer science with a Fellowship at Exeter College.
